In 2014, the Engineering Division contracted with an outside consulting firm to perform pavement condition ratings for each of the City's 133 miles of streets. The collected data was used to compile the initial Pavement Condition Index (PCI). This PCI is updated periodically to reflect existing conditions. Streets are broken into three categories: asphalt surface, concrete, and brick. The PCI provides the Engineering Division a means of planning and prioritizing upcoming utility projects as well as pavement resurfacing projects. Other factors, such as development, traffic volume, and proximity are also taken into consideration.
