City of Wooster Transitions to Every-Other-Week Recycling

Starting July 1, residents of the City of Wooster will see a change in their recycling service as the city transitions from weekly to every-other-week (EOW) pickup. The change is part of a broader effort to optimize service delivery, manage rising operational costs, and improve the overall sustainability of the city's solid waste program.

Why the Change?

According to city officials, the move to EOW recycling is driven by several key factors:

  • Increased costs for processing and hauling recyclables
  • Underfilled containers during weekly pickup, signaling unused capacity
  • Environmental benefits from fewer trucks on the road, cutting emissions

Address-Based Schedule Look-Up

To make the transition as smooth as possible, the city has created an online tool that allows residents to search their recycling pickup schedule by address.

Residents can visit the City of Wooster website to quickly find whether their home falls on an “A” or “B” recycling week, along with all the exact dates for service.

ADRESS LOOKUP

Drop-Off Recycling Still Available

For residents who occasionally need more frequent service or who miss a pickup, recycling drop-off remains available at two locations within Wooster:

  • 2605 Selby Rd, Wooster, OH 44691 – CFAES OSU Feed Mill (behind the feed mill)
  • 3540 Burbank Rd, Wooster, OH 44691 – Behind Buehler’s Fresh Foods

These locations are operated in partnership with Stark-Tuscarawas-Wayne (STW) Recycling District and accept the same recyclable materials as curbside service.

What Won’t Change

While the frequency is changing, recycling guidelines and what materials are accepted remain the same. Residents are reminded to:

  • Rinse containers before placing them in the bin
  • Avoid plastic bags (they are not recyclable curbside)
  • Flatten cardboard and place it inside the bin

Trash service and bulk item pickup are not affected by this change.
