Please be advised that service on a City board or commission is generally considered to be the holding of a public office under Ohio law. Ohio’s ethics laws apply to those holding public office and may affect your ability to represent clients before the City or its boards or commissions.
*Submitting an application for a board or commission simply places the applicant’s name on a list for eligibility review. Most boards and commissions have specific requirements, such as Ward representation, business affiliation, or residency. Additionally, board terms range from 2 to 6 years, with a 12-year term limit. As a result, vacancies are infrequent and may not become available on a particular board for several years.
